George Jackson (Jack) Kidd
was born on July 24, 1923 in Avon, UT. He was the third son of George Clement and Minnie Jackson Kidd. His childhood and youth on a farm four miles south of Ashton, ID. His family moved into Ashton when he was a junior at Ashton High. After graduating from high school, Jack entered the military service in January 1943 and served almost 4 years in the US Army Air Corp. His father died during his military service. His widowed mother joined her husband 8 months after Jack was released from the military. He and his younger brother, Clark, “bached” and operated a “service station” until Clark finished high school. Jack then left his brother in charge of the business and accepted a call to serve in the Southern States LDS Mission. After his mission he sold the business and pursued his bachelors degree at Ricks College, where he met his sweetheart, Lillian Barrett, from Compton, California.
They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. His professional life was spent in the LDS Church’s Seminary and Institute Program. His quest for knowledge led to a masters degree from BYU and an Ed.D. from Utah State University, with a major in social psychology and a minor in marriage and family life. He was a participating member in the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP) throughout his professional career. His education was focused in preparing him to be of service to his family and his fellowman. It was his sincere faith that Jesus, The Christ, is the greatest friend any of us have. He is our example and role model for righteous living and charitable service. Jack felt family life is where charitable service is to be earnestly and daily practiced, then eventually, with Divine help, perfected and extended to all with whom we deal. That is to include those who, unwittingly or knowingly, “persecute” us.
This was reflected in his life of service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family remembers few days in which he was not involved in significant callings in the church at ward and stake levels. In spite of his professional and ecclesiastical responsibilities, he found time for family vacations, camp outs, home evenings, worship, home maintenance, gardening, children’s and grandchildren’s sports, concerts and other personal family involvements. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, 3 brothers and one sister: Fern (and Elizabeth) Kidd, Earl (and Bettie) Kidd, Clark Kidd, Nelda (and Don) MacPherson.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian, and their four children, all of Logan: Norma (Herm) Olsen, David (Cherie) Kidd, Janet (Gregg) Olsen and Carol (Scott) Clark. Others include twenty grandchildren and twenty-seven (soon to be twenty-eight) great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Kidd. Memories and messages for the family may be shared at www.NymanFH.com. Funeral services are being provided by Nyman Funeral Home. A closed casket open house will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 2nd, at the Logan First Ward Church house (South entrance). There will be no public viewing on Tuesday.
